Suzie Stevens embodied what it meant to be a caretaker. She believed so strongly in community and the impact of supporting others. Suzie volunteered her time to numerous causes; worked for the visiting nurses in her hometown of Hanover, Massachusetts; and was a dedicated nurse at South Shore Hospital, the VNA and then South Shore Medical Center for over 20 years. When Suzie’s three girls were young, she worked at a summer day camp as the nurse where she was lovingly nicknamed “Band-aid.” Suzie brought joy and smiles to all that knew her. Her positive outlook on life, joy for family and friends and belief in sticking together through hard times made her the special person she was. Suzie loved holidays and would often come to work adorned with costumes. If there was something to celebrate, Suzie was the first one to make it fun and festive. Her compassionate and cheerful outlook on life brought her patients love and care and her coworkers a sense of community and connection.
Funds raised through the Suzanne Stevens Memorial Project will help JPH to produce healthcare workers support programs such as retreats, wellness programs and healthcare worker community building opportunities.
